Clampett Vs. Jones by Lotusbandicoot Clampett Vs. Jones by Lotusbandicoot
...but I'll just tell you now, I don't like one guy more than the other. They were both animation geniuses, even if Bob supposedly was an egotist who stole things and took credit for them. When it comes to the Termite Terrace guys, they're all equal in my mind. Too bad these two didn't like each other so much!

Anyway, I tried to make Bob and Chuck in their own drawing styles. It's TOUGH! Plus, I just did this in Flash, so it's pretty tiny.

While I appreciate both of them for how skilled and influential they were... I strongly prefer Chuck Jones.
I love this drawing BTW

I love both of these guy's work and they are both huge inspirations to me and my artwork. I wish that I could say that I like them both equally, but that's a lie. I definitely have a preference to Clampett's stuff. It just speaks to me more. I mean, I think that all of the great directors and animators from Termite Terrace are brilliant and are all equally important, but Clampett is just my personal favorite.

Also, I just found this article that you might find interesting: zvbxrpl.blogspot.ca/2008/02/bo…

Heh, I remember reading that before. (even though there are many other articles where I'd have loved to punch either Thad or Weinman ...)

If you don't mind me asking, who are Thad and Weinman?

No problem ! Thad Komorowsky ( who recently wrote this www.amazon.com/Sick-Little-Mon… ...) and Jaime Weinman is the guy who wrote the article (and the entire blog that is ...).
They can have a good remark here and there, but they are pretty much the kind of cartoon elitists that make me roll my eyes (suuure Animaniacs is a worthless series . Of course it is...)

Yeah, exactly... and I like them all for different reasons too. (I try to draw stuff like Bob, and WISH I could emulate Chuck. :XD:)

And I'll definitely have to give that a read! :)

Well , it is more of dislike than hatred (Chuck still said that Clampett was a fine director, while Bob did point out that Jones made some of the most important cartoons... Even Mel Blanc had a bit of an ego; I can tell you that he was completely wrong about Clarence Nash's talent :) ).
Bear in mind that both had ego problems : Jones was notorious for being a control freak (not a problem by me XD but there is that !).
From what I know, it was mostly due to a M.Barrier interview where Clampett was the interviewee.
Bob gave himself a bit too much credit over things like the creation of Bugs, Daffy and Porky... It pissed off Jones and Avery among others.
Though Clampett would later apologize about it...
Honestly the only Clampett-related thing I do loathe was the sycophants (so it is not him or his work you might say XD ). I do not say that Jones or Freleng did not have their blind fanboys (they do but you do not hear them that much) , but the Clampett/40's cartoon  ones are the very worst of the bunch. Utterly Dethpicable.

Well, good thing I don't necessarily like any directors more than others. :XD:

Anyway, thanks for the info!

Something tells me that Chuck's interpretation of Daffy was based on Bob's narcissistic, and outright egotistical nature, just saying......

Actually that's wrong. Chuck based his take on Daffy on himself or people in general (hence why it's the character he worked the best with , or gave the most layers to ).

Hmm... you know, that version of Daffy came about around the time Bob wasn't directing animations any longer... you might be onto something here.

I never really thought that Bob Clampett was an egotist. :hmm: But, all I can say is that both Clampett and Jones are talented.

Cool exaggeration on those faces there. :)

For me, Bob is an original guy, never seen any examples of him stealing, and as for being egotists, well John K. is critiqued as being an odd boss too and he's another cartoon genius, but fi we're going into meorability and inspirtaional stuff, Chuck Jones definitely brings that one home for me, I always loved his work and is still the one that had most impact on me as a fan of the older Warner Bros. cartoons, good job on the pic btw dude! it definitely shows the rivalry they had for eachother, WICH would also prove to be an interesting short, it'd be pretty cool to see them having a staredown that would maximize in detail each in their own style!

Yeah, it's the same way for me. The only style I ever remember seeing when I was really young is definitely Chuck's style.

To be honest, I'm more of a Jones type of guy. His humour and sentimental moments is what inspired me the most. I don't HATE Clampett, I just never grew up with his cartoons all that much, and they're not the funniest in my personal opinion, with the exception of "Porky In Wackyland" , though I like the Friz Freleng remake a little more....either way, LONG LIVE THE DODO!

Heheh, yup. Yeah, Chuck's cartoons are the ones that stuck in my memory the most by far, and I didn't even know who Bob WAS until a couple years ago!! :XD: But yeah, Chuck was really experimental and ahead of his time with some shorts.

I've always assumed that Chuck was just jealous by the fact that Bob got more attention around the studio than he did. Jones was creative yes, but Clampett was the more 'out of the box' type of guy which is what got him the attention. Still. This is a bit humorous none of the less.

Nothing wrong with being a bit of an egotist Floating Although you shouldn't steal things. No, I disagree! Nonetheless, awesome job on both of them!

For sure :D My philosophy is everyone oughta be the best artist in the world, to them, or else why are they doing this? Thing that seems to get in the way of a lot of people is when that goes to a "God Complex" and overrides reality.

I don't really see any proof of Mr. Bob Clampett stealing  other people's work and taking credit for it.
And aren't all artist at most egotistical? C'mon admit it.

Yeah, I never see any proof when I try to find it. I've read about it before, and Chuck and even Mel Blanc said he'd look around the studio at night at the other artists' stuff. But I don't know...

Oh, and HECK YES, I know I sure am! :XD:

This is serious and sad. Why would a person (Bob Clampett) of his talent stoop so low? This is why artists should lock their stuff up.
