Classic Daffy by Lotusbandicoot Classic Daffy by Lotusbandicoot
Well, at least the '40s version of him. Not quite the older ones, like Tex Avery's actual duck-size version with the blue neck stripe, or Bob Clampett's version with the green around the eyes. But just the pretty typical version you saw through most of the '40s. Anyway, I'm beginning to feel confident with drawing him without any references now. I did this during my late-evening German class last week without one.

The best Daffy is the one by Tashlin. Him and the Clampett one both.

Oh yeah, I always forget about Tish Tash! I think the most predominant animator in his unit was Art Davis.

I love pretty much all versions of Daffy that were done at Termite Terrace! :XD: But I'm probably the most fond of Clampett's Daffy.

Looks just like a drawing you'd see in a documentary of Warner Bros classic cartoons.

It sure was! I'd seen a model sheet before with his basic construction, luckily. Thanks yet again! :)

I've always had a preference toward Daffy's more recent designs (80s and onward), but, after seeing this again, I think I've developed a "soft spot" for his older look =D

Ah, interesting. :) I've always been a little flinchy about anything newer than '65 since the animation got really limited. The design wasn't bad or anything, but I just... associate it with that limited movement. :XD:

BUUUUT that's just me. And I'm too picky about things like that. :XD:

I've always liked Daffy's 40's designs. They come across as very bouncy yet solid a lot of the time (kind of a weird wording but I couldn't think of any others that fit XP).

I know what you mean though. I think one of the '40s versions of him I've seen the least was probably Friz Freleng's Daffy.

Now that you mention it, I don't think I've seen many of his Daffy cartoons either. The only ones I can remember at the top of my head is Daffy the Commando and Yankee Doodle Daffy. I used to watch the latter one all of the time as a kid.

I've been wrong before though. :XD: I just checked and it most definitely was ol' Isadore. Looking back, I can tell now...

So Clampett has taken credit for several things, and I've unknowingly given him some for stuff he didn't do. :XD: I made the same mistake with "Porky Pig's Feat."

Hmm... I thought "Yankee Doodle Daffy" was directed by Clampett. :o

WOO HOO! WOO HOO HOO! WOO! WOO HOO HOO HOO!!

Yup, that one. I find it interesting that even Chuck Jones' cartoons in the early '40s had this version of him, since I always associate the more intellectual, short-tempered version of him with Jones' stuff. X)
